community college. south of here. the friends that she was with that night say she left that event early on new year's eve night to return to the hotel. those friends say she was spotted there by -- or was spotted that hotel by a reliable source after midnight on -- in the morning of january 1. and there has been no sign of her sense. the search was expanded today and they were looking in snow banks around the casino and areas around the music event in south lake tahoe. last cell phone activity was that music festival. but it appears they have discovered an additional signal. >> we are still analyzing that data and we don't yet know if it is a phone call or a text.

takes a little bit to determine that. and we still don't know the exact location of its use. >> reporter: there were two tweets left on her account on december 31. the final one was at 3:49 p.m. where she is in this tweet, says she just lost all trust in the person she trusted most. an earlier tweet that day said after tonight you will never be a part of my life, a new year, you will never be a part of. you are nothing to me. it is difficult to know what to make of the tweets. the sheriff's department says they are not ready at this point to positively attribute the tweets to her but they are looking into that. they say there is no reason to believe that there is -- they

can think of no reason why she would not contact parents, friends or relatives, saying that would be very much unlike this 19-year-old. ken pritchett, ktvu channel 2 news. >> coming up, alyssa byrne's disappearance jars memories in her home town. the unique connection to poly clasp. clasp. a fight between a father and son today. police say the father called 911 at 2:30 a.m. this morning to report he had been stabbed four times. when police arrived, his son had a head injury. both were taken to the hospital and both are expected to survive. no word on what caused the fight. we are learning new information about the killing of a businessman. the information comes on the same day one of the four people

arrested appeared in court. ktvu's alex savage has been uncovering details and is here now with what he learned. >> reporter: this afternoon i looked through a divorce filing in the case. it was thousands of pages long. among other things it hints at shady business dealings and a sham divorce. at this point prosecutors aren't saying what motivated the killers. >> reporter: facing a murder charge, he made his first appearance before a judge this afternoon. he did not enter a plea. he is one of four people accused of being involved in the killing of a wealthy businessman during a home invasion at his mansion in november. they also face murder charges. she has a history of

prostitution. police and prosecutors wouldn't talk today about the connection. according to the complaint he was killed with a metal object. the killing happened during a robbery making three of the defendants eligible for the death penalty. >> that is something that is done with the district attorney as well other individuals that he selected to make that decision. that is done on all cases. i am not going to guess on this case. >> reporter: today we are learning more. he owned mountain vinery and a cell phone company. in this divorce filing he is accused of shady business dealings. one partner claimed the divorce was on paper only. a way to shield assets. he was heavy into drugs and

alcohol spent time with prostitutes. >> reporter: all three defendants were charged with murder. they will come back to court tomorrow to appear together. i checked in today with the police department, a surgent said it is likely -- sergeant said it is likely more people could be arrested. alex savage, ktvu channel 2 news. police arrested a suspect in a office party stabbing. he was picked up on the night of the homicide, december 21. police say they have confirmed he attended a party in north san jose. an argument broke out in which he stabbed a man who later died at the hospital. he ran from the scene but they were able to track him down. he is being held without bail. a woman is lucky to be alive after a scare earlier today. police say she became

disoriented this morning and turned on to railroad tracks. she was almost at auto mall parkway when she got stuck. she saw a train, flashed and th was able to stop. today a new session of congress convened in washington, d.c. and the first order of business whether to reelect john boehner and nancy pelosi. scot mcfarland tells us, the vote was close. >> the margin of victory was narrow but john boehner is speaker of the house. >> reporter: yes, he got the standing ovation and yes, he teared up again during his victory speech. >> if you have come here to carry the leadership demanded by the times then you have come

a dramatic police chase, an officer injured and a rifle seized. all in a night's work for police chief. this was new year's eve. this started with the sound of gunfire caught on the department's shot spotter. on new year's eve police had

deployed teams throughout the city on alert for gunfire. so at 10:30 p.m. when they detected the gunfire police were alerted on their laptops. they responded to the scene in 2 minutes. a citizen called 911 and described a car leaving the area. police patrol cars and a helicopter gave chase. the car rammed a patrol car injuring an officer. two people were arrested. a 3rd suspect escaped. >> all four worked very well that night within seconds. that includes technology, police response, help from citizens, and resources as the helicopter. >> police say they tossed an assault rifle capable of firing 100 rounds out of their car.

a man is facing multiple weapons charges in connection with the incident. police have the censors covering half of the city. they plan to expand the program nis year -- this year. san francisco police are searching for five armed men in a home invasion armory, related to drugs. the victims say five people made their way in through a security gate. one held the victim at gun point and the others ransacked the apartment. they were frustrated by what they could not find. >> kept asking for weed. kept saying where is the 50 pounds. >> after 15 minutes they left taking cell phones, electronics, wallets and cash. no one was seriously hurt. a teen disappears, her mother speaks out as the

a central california teen and friend are facing charges, accused of drugging her parents. a 15 and 16-year-old mixed sleep medicine into a couple milkshake that they brought home to the parents. the parents stopped drinking the milkshake because they tasted funny but not before falling asleep. >> felt groggy. had a headache. they felt something was strange. >> the parents took a drug test and they then turned them in to

life in homeless shelters is difficult and dangerous. now san francisco is implementing a new code of conduct. rob roth is here to explain how it will work. >> reporter: hundreds of homeless people are inside this shelter south of market street and next month the shelters will enforce a new code of conduct aimed at making shelters safer inside and outside. >> reporter: all is peaceful today. some people said sometimes fights break out. she is in charge of the programs. >> people jockey from lines or they have a beef with someone and they see that person
